Other similarities between the two models are the HD camera for FaceTime, an SDXC card slot, a pair of USB 3 ports, a pair of Thunderbolt 2 ports, an HDMI port and Bluetooth 4.0.ĭue to the larger screen, the 15-inch model has a shorter battery life, with an estimated nine hours of operating time while surfing the Internet and nine hours in playing back movies compared to 10 hours and 12 hours, respectively, for the 13-inch model. The gestures and commands connected to the trackpad are customizable, with the API for the trackpad to be sent out to third-party developers so that they could incorporate the capability to apps. With the capability to determine how hard or soft a user is pressing down on the trackpad, the Force Touch technology adds another layer of control and precision to the input commands of the laptops. The cheaper model of the larger laptop comes with Intel Iris Pro Graphics card, while the more expensive model has the same card but additionally with an AMD Radeon R9 M370X with 2GB of GDDR5 memory.īoth laptop models use the Force Touch trackpad, which has the potential to make a significant difference in how users operate the machines. The 13-inch Macbook Pro comes with an Intel Iris Graphics 6100 card, while the 15-inch MacBook Pro has two options. Both laptops can have up to 16GB RAM and up to 1TB in flash storage. In comparison the 15-inch MacBook Pro comes in a 2.2GHz, 2.5GHz or 2.8GHz quad-core Intel Core i7 processor, with a Turbo Boost option that can take the laptop's processor to 4.0GHz. The 13-inch MacBook Pro comes in either a 2.7GHz or 2.9GHz dual-core Intel Core i5 processor or a 3.1GHz dual-core Intel Core i7 processor, with a Turbo Boost option that can take the laptop's processor up to 3.4GHz. The larger model is understandably heavier, though only by slightly over 1 pound.

Thanks to all who have weighed in so far. Both laptops measure only 0.71 inches in terms of thickness, making both MacBook Pro models very slim. This unit is in great condition with some light wear on the right side of the lid, however this is all purely cosmetic wear and doesnt effect the functionality of the machine. It has a 4th Generation i7 Processor and 16GB of RAM. I have yet to look up the specs to address whether the 16 GB of ram is enough to bridge the gap. Technical Specs The Apple Mid 2015 MacBook Pro 15' is a great student and business laptop. I honestly was hoping to get a weigh-in on my hypothesis that this the result of an underpowered integrated GPU - or more importantly, validation that others have experienced the same thing (with or without it being an all-out failure). I didn't bother trying a third cable as the glitching has never appeared on the 4k monitor.

I always use the thunderbolt/mini displayport to drive the monitor - and to date have used two different cables. My feeling is that if a bad cable was the cause, I'd see it no matter the circumstances.ģ. I question whether the built-in screen's display cable is the culprit as it doesn't happen when I am using it as my only monitor. Starting in safe mode seems to hamstring those same applications - so I can't really work in them.Ģ. It typically happens when I'm working in multiple GPU-intensive applications - not just when I have them all open. The only changes were a faster discrete graphics chipset in the high-end model, and the inclusion of a 'Force Touch' trackpad, which used haptic feedback to simulate clicks rather than a using physical button and could measure and respond to click strength. Doing so makes it difficult to mimic the same conditions that bring about the glitching in the first place. Introduced in May 2015, the MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2015) replaced the MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2014). I did try running the machine in Safe Mode briefly, but quickly realized it wasn't going to work. Well - I figured I'd see how many twists and turns the conversation tookġ.
